(Zombo) – Jackline Akello, a dedicated member of the Avonu Microstation in Amei Parish, Paidha Subcounty, Zombo District, is on the verge of reaping significant profits from tomato farming. Supported by the Fair4All Partnership/PVP Project, implemented by the Agency for Community Empowerment (AFCE) in partnership with Oxfam, Jackline received two tins of tomato seeds to kickstart her farming journey.
Through comprehensive training sessions provided by the project, Jackline learned essential horticultural skills, including nursery bed establishment, seedling raising, transplanting, harvesting, and post harvest handling. Additionally, she acquired valuable knowledge in market research, enabling her to make informed decisions that maximize her income.
Thanks to her hard work and the support she received, Jackline is optimistic about the future. Her success in tomato farming is already helping her family meet basic needs, such as paying school fees for her eight children, securing medication, and acquiring productive assets for the household.
Jackline, who has two children in secondary school, three in upper primary, two in lower primary, and one yet to enroll in nursery school, is confident that her efforts will ensure a bright future for her family. She expresses deep gratitude to AFCE and Oxfam for empowering her with the knowledge and resources to improve her family’s livelihood. “They gave me hooks, and now I can catch more fish moving forward,” she says, highlighting her determination to continue growing her business and securing a better life for her children.
